New 15-Year Design Patent Term in the U.S.

On May 13, 2015, the "Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs" went into force in the U.S.

The Hague Agreement increases the patent term for all U.S. design patent applications filed on or after May 13, 2015 to fifteen (15) years from the issue date.

The term for design patent applications that inventors filed prior to this date is fourteen (14) years from the issue date.
